Dr Nayyer Abbas Abidi is a health promotion specialist who is also known as healthcare writer, a bilingual author, and a committed health activist in the United Kingdom .
Education:
He passed his SSC examination ( GCSEs- A Grades ) from Govt. High School , Uch Sharif , Bahawalpur . He got through Intermediate ( A` Levels- A Grades ) from Bosan Road College Multan and got admission into Allama Iqbal Medical College , Lahore in 1981 / 82. http://mail.brain.com.pk/~iqbalians/index.htm

Training:
He worked as Senior House Surgeon, Orthopaedics & Medical Officer , Medical Outpatients Department at Nishtar Hospital , Multan for about 4 years and then came to England for higher medical education. Since then he had been working at various NHS hospitals, including Derriford Hospital , Plymouth - 1994-95 & University Hospital of Wales , Cardiff -1996. Later, he conducted an outcome-oriented research at North Manchester General Hospital -1997-98 , which indicated that people from minority ethnic communities suffer mainly due to cultural stigmas and language barriers. After completing his computer training ( C&G ) and surgical training ( FRCS ) courses, he joined PMA UK & ITI ( London ), and also worked as a Language Consultant to edit healthcare material for NHS patients & staff.
Achievements:
During his work with Birch Hill Hospital , Rochdale & Royal Halifax Infirmary, Halifax , he became the founding Secretary General of Association of Pakistani Graduates (U.K). He was awarded an honorary Fellowship by Manchester Medical Society on the basis of his unique publications. He became author of first-ever Urdu healthcare book, ` Tibbi Masail ka Hul ` (solution to common health issues ) , in 2000. Department of Health later approved this book for wider circulation in the U.K. So far, 4 editions of the book have been published and distributed in the U.K. www.minorityhealth.gov.uk/ethnicubooks.htm.
He had received `Friends Media Award` & National Millennium Award , & also been nominated for the ` Pride of Britain ` Award, ` Queen's Golden Jubilee ` Award & `Excellence in Health ` Award.
Contributions:
A national health awareness project, M.E.H.A project, U.K , was launched in February 2002 in Manchester . This unique project is supervised by a group of native health professionals, working in the NHS. He was selected to work as National Co-ordinator . Its aim is to provide latest healthcare information in individual's native language and raise health awareness mainly in the minority ethnic communities of the U.K. www.minorityhealth.gov.uk/project.htm
At City College of Manchester http://www.ccm.ac.uk , he delivers lectures, on casual basis, to foreign medical graduates to help them pass IELTS (English test) http://www.ielts.org and PLAB (professional assessment) examination.
In April 2002, his U.K`s first-ever bilingual ( English / Urdu ) healthcare book was published in the U.K.
` Prevention is always better than cure ` is being supplied to public libraries, hospital libraries, community centres, and G.P surgeries for the benefit of wider community. He regularly writes health awareness articles for local Urdu & English community newspapers. He also organises monthly health awareness seminars, radio talks, and awareness meetings for the benefit of wider community.
Since January 2003, he is serving as Chief Executive of a registered ( Charity Number:1100900 ) national charitable trust, British Ethnic Health Awareness Foundation (BEHAF) .
